Channels

The following ‘channels’, categories of products, have been established for content creators participating in the DSN. Examples for each category are given. In general, try to use common sense when selecting the category for your item. If in doubt, please contact the DSN team.

  1. Female fashion: all kinds of female clothing, system layers as well as prim attachments, including shoes and bare foot shoes.
  2. Male fashion: all kinds of male or unisex clothing, system layers as well as prim attachments, including shoes and bare foot shoes. If an item is intended to be unisex in the first place, it should go into male fashion.
  3. Skins and hair: including eyes and tattoos/body oil – generally, everything that is a ‘body part’ in terms of SL inventory listing (shape, eyes, skin, system hair) or is treated as such for a normal, unmutilated avatar and/or replaces or supplements the system equivalent in practice (prim eyes, prim hair, prim nails, prim tattoos, prim eyelashes, prim body hair). Unisex.
  4. Jewelry and Accessories: bags, glasses, piercings, jewellery, hats and everything an avatar can “wear” as visible object, that is not a full clothing set and not covered otherwise. This includes pets that are primarily worn (e.g. shoulder-dragons) and simple always-on particle generators intended to be worn for long periods of time. Unisex.
  5. Home and Garden: furniture and plants, prefabs of any kind (regular, roleplay, fantasy, commercial), lighting systems, rocks, waterfalls, weather systems, photographies and artwork. Also boats, airships, space stations, submarines etc. intended to be stationary rezzed and lived in. This category also includes animals and pets of every level of sophistication unless they are primarily worn (and thus would be accessories).
  6. Gadgets, Vehicles and Weapons: boats, cars, planes, other vehicles of every ilk, wearable vehicles. Wearable objects, HUD’s or standalone objects that fit neither clothing, accessories nor tools, (A prim skirt with a resize HUD is still Female Fashion, a HUD that helps you calculate texture offset is a tool) intended for a consumer rather than a designer. Examples are huggers, scanners, dashers, security orbs and personal information management devices, all kinds of combat enabled or decorative weapons, also combat systems. This category is also for SL magazines and books that cover a broad range of topics and therefore can not be assigned to one of the other channels. For a clarification regarding magazines and books please see this post.
  7. Animations and Poses: still poses, animated poses, gestures and AO’s, poseball sets intended for use with other objects or standalone for photography purposes. Unfortunately, explicitly adult animations cannot be admitted.
  8. Business, Tools and Services: tools for building, scripting, animation as well as sculptmaps, terrain files, textures and generally instruments intended for the designer or business owner. This includes business, sales and marketing tools as well. All kinds of service offerings except services adult in nature (which are disallowed explicitly, ask LL what ‘adult’ is). Also club and shop equipment like contest boards, lucky chairs, visitor counters, mass communication tools, reward and loyalty systems etc.
  9. Full avatars: sets of skins, clothing and prim attachments that make up a full avatar. This includes Tinies, anthropomorphic creatures (e.g. centaurs or fauns) and non-anthropomorphic avatars of every kind (e.g. robots). This channel also includes accessories that would normally fall with other accessories, but are not usable without a specific kind of base avatar, like tiny accessories.
  10. Adult Content: Animations and poses of explicit sexual nature, including, but not limited to, sex beds and other similar objects, attachments explicitly depicting sexual organs. BDSM gear of every ilk and any clothing that is too racy for Mature, things involving what LL calls ‘photorealistic nudity’, whatever that is, and generally anything LL classifies as ‘adult content’ — if in doubt, ask them. Services involving content creation that normally result in adult content also go into Adult Content channel. Advertising services of adult nature that do not result in content creation, specifically, but not limited to, escort services, is not permitted.
